Grey Structure Construction

The grey structure phase focuses on the skeleton of the building, preparing it for finishing works.

  • Site Preparation and Excavation:

    • Clearing the site and marking boundaries as per site plan.

    • Excavation for foundations, ensuring proper depth as per structural design, and dealing with site-specific challenges (water tables, soil type).

  • Foundation Work:

    • Laying the footings or piles and pouring reinforced concrete (RC) foundations.

    • Waterproofing is often applied at this stage to protect the foundation.

  • Superstructure (Columns, Beams, and Slabs):

    • Formwork is set for beams and columns, and concrete is poured as per structural reinforcement detailing.

    • Steel reinforcements are laid for slabs, followed by concrete pouring and curing.

  • Masonry Work (Walls):

    • Laying of bricks or concrete blocks to form walls. Care is taken to ensure they’re level and aligned with door/window frames.

    • Damp-proofing and insulation layers are added during this stage.

  • Rough-in for Electrical & Plumbing:

    • Electrical conduits are installed inside the walls, and pipes for water supply/drainage are laid before plastering.

    • Ensuring correct placement of outlets and switches to avoid conflicts with later finishes.

  • Roof Slab Construction:

    • Laying of the roof slab or other roof structures (such as steel trusses), followed by waterproofing the roof.

  • Plastering:

    • Cement plaster is applied to internal and external walls, smoothing the surfaces for future finishes like paint or tiles.

  • Floor Screeding:

    • A layer of concrete is applied to floors to level them, preparing for tiling or other floor finishes.
